TOP 3 IMPACTFUL REASONS TO CHOOSE ALUMINUM CABINETS

There are many reasons to choose aluminum cabinetry for your Kitchen. Whether it's an indoor or outdoor kitchen at home or a commercial kitchen in a restaurant or resort, aesthetics plays a big role in choosing aluminum cabinetry. The expansive rich colours available and the clean look of the modern doors are incredible. However, in this post we wanted to share some of the more impactful reasons to choose aluminum cabinetry.

FIREproof

We will be talking about sustainability and durability and the impact it has on the environment but sustainability when it comes to fire and flood are big advantages to keep in mind! Let's talk about fire first. According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking is the leading cause of home fires.

“As many households are now dealing with unusual routines and out-of-the-ordinary circumstances, such as kids home from school and parents working from home, there’s greater potential for distracted cooking,” said Lorraine Carli, vice president of Outreach and Advocacy at NFPA.

The main reason for this is because the cabinetry in most kitchens is made of combustible materials leading to the quick spread of what could have otherwise been a controlled fire on your cooktop/stovetop. With aluminum cabinetry and it's fireproof properties you have a much better chance of controlling the fire and saving your kitchen and subsequently your home and potentially your family.

That being said, it's always best of course to prevent a fire in the first place so here are some "Cooking Best Practices" that the NFPA suggests:
  • Stay in the kitchen while you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling food. If you leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove.
  • If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
  • Keep anything that can catch fire — oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels or curtains — away from your stovetop.
  • Make sure all handles are turned inward, away from where someone can grab a hot handle or tip a pan over.
  • Be on alert. If you are sleepy or have consumed alcohol, refrain from using the stove or stovetop.
  • If you have young children in your home, create a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet (1 meter) around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried.

WATER RESISTANT

Our exclusive aluminum cabinetry can be used outdoors as they withstand the effects of moisture and dampness and is resistant to even the most extreme temperature changes and weather conditions. The fact that aluminum is impermeable to fluids bodes well for their outdoor use, but is extremely valuable for their impact indoors.

From a daily use and maintenance standpoint, the powder-coated aluminum surfaces allows for peace of mind knowing that your cabinetry can be used robustly and will wipe clean easily and not be affected especially in "problem areas" such as around the sink and stove.

Peace of mind also comes in the fact that if you were to experience a flood in your kitchen due to an overflowing sink, a malfunctioning dishwasher or fridge, or even as drastic as from an overland natural flood during a storm your cabinets wouldn't be damaged and will continue to look gorgeous for years to come.  Strictly from an insurance standpoint, this alone is an immense benefit to choosing aluminum over wood products for your cabinetry.

SUSTAINABLE

Aluminum is a unique metal: strong, durable, flexible, impermeable, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, non-toxic and 100 percent recyclable. Nearly 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still used today. Keep in mind that not all aluminum is made equally. The way aluminum is produced can impact our environment very differently depending on the methods used. We are proud that producers in Europe and North America have led the way in dropping their carbon emissions and continue to innovate and find new ways of becoming more and more sustainable. Whereas according to AI, India and China continue to lag far behind in the pollution reduction game. Just last year, India’s CO2 emissions grew by 4.8 percent. The news was scarcely better on the other side of the Himalayas, with China’s overall increase in CO2 jumping by just over 3 percent last year. Both countries are clearly going in the wrong direction. So it is extremely important to be asking where your aluminum is being produced when you are sourcing aluminum for your project. We are eagerly anticipating that our producers in North America and Europe will reach their goal of achieving a lifecycle carbon footprint of zero.

As designers we love aluminum cabinetry because of their form and function but we are equally proud of the impactful ways they add value to both our clients homes and the environment. When you hear of a friend or family member searching for new cabinets for their kitchen, please let them know that aluminum metal cabinets are not only a gorgeous option but also an extremely valuable option to seriously consider.
